Deer Park ousts Kingwood; Katy, F.B. Austin advance

Mark Nolan went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to score Jeramie Hale, as visiting Deer Park beat Kingwood 8-6 to complete a two-game sweep in their Class 5A Region III bi-district series.

"I really think we had some guys that have not been heroes and they stepped it up," Deer coach Jim Liggett said. "They came through with some clutch hits. They just played with a lot of heart and intensity."

Deer Park (15-14), which upset Kingwood 14-4 Friday, led 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth before the Mustangs scored two runs to tie the score and force extra innings.

Katy 6-8, Dulles 1-5 - Katy used its home field to its advantage by rallying to win two games and take its Class 5A Region III series with Dulles two games to one.

Trey Landers went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Corby Medlin (7-2) struck out 12 to lead the Tigers to victory in the first game. Don Brockman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Erik Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Katy (19-11) in the second game.

Fort Bend Austin 14-10, Mayde Creek 3-9 - Fort Bend Austin rallied from eight runs down in the decisive third game of its Class 5A series with Mayde Creek to win the finale in eight innings.

After Chris Sheffield pitched the Bulldogs past Creek in Game 2, Austin fell behind in the third game 9-1 in the fifth before rallying to force extra innings. Nick Waligura's double scored courtesy runner James Brooks in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. Nick Jones hit two homers for Austin (25-5).

Lamar 18, Davis 5 - Hunter Brown went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a home run, and Landon Keith went 3-for-3 with five RBIs as Lamar swept Davis with a victory in the second game of a Class 5A Region III series.

Klein Oak 11, Tomball 1 - Brandon Goraum, Joe Colerick and Blake Davis each had two hits and Jonathan Hamilton added three hits as Klein Oak crushed Tomball to win the Class 5A Region II series 2-0.

Hamilton and Davis drove in three runs apiece. Davis hit his eighth home run of the season as the Panthers (22-7) advance to meet Belton.

Clear Brook 9, Furr 1 - Charlie Prahm went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer, and Blake Roder picked up his sixth consecutive win as Clear Brook eliminated Furr with a two-game sweep of their Class 4A Region III series.

C.E. King 16, Worthing 6 - Adrian Webb went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a home run, and Drew Starnes with 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead C.E. King to a two-game sweep over Furr in their Class 4A Region III series.
