LUBBOCK, Texas - Five Texas Tech baseball student-athletes were named to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the league office announced Tuesday.

Texas Tech junior third baseman Reid Redman (Midland, Texas), redshirt junior Zach Fowler (Texarkana, Texas) and redshirt sophomore Nick Hanslik (Wolfforth, Texas) were named to the first team while sophomore Barrett Barnes (Sugarland, Texas) and junior Brennan Stewart (Round Rock, Texas) received second team honors.

A total of 61 Big 12 baseball student-athletes were named to the first and second team while being nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices. There were 40 first-team members selected with 21 named to the second team.

Redman, an energy commerce major, is among the top defensive third basemen in the conference this season and is currently leading Texas Tech batting .315 (56-for-178) on the season. He also has 10 doubles, 32 RBI and 20 walks with six stolen bases in seven attempts.

Fowler, a history major, is among team leaders with 23 appearances out of the bullpen. He is 1-1 this season with a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts. Entering this semester, Fowler had been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll each of his three semesters at Texas Tech.

Hanslik, a business major, has played in 34 games this season while starting in 12 contests. He has scored six runs and has five RBI while not making an error with 22 opportunities, primarily playing in left field. Hanslik has been one of the Red Raiders top outfielders this season and has been used throughout the season as a defensive replacement. Hanslik has been named to three consecutive Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll Dean's Lists.

He has been named to a pair of Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Rolls.

Stewart, an accounting major, has been one of Tech's top relievers this season with a 2-1 record, 3.02 ERA in 19 appearances with 44.2 innings pitched. He has allowed only 33 base hits and 18 runs with 31 strikeouts and 12 walks while opponents are batting just .214.
