Texas Tech’s offense came to full life during Big 12 Conference play.

It coincided with the bat of Barrett Barnes.

A freshman from Sugarland, Texas, where he was a standout at Fort Bend Austin High, Barnes provided middle of the order pop for the Red Raiders in his first tour around the conference.

Overall, he led Tech with 12 home runs, ranked second on the squad with a .338 batting average and drove in 50 runs. It was in conference play where Barnes really took off, batting .352, with seven home runs and scoring 34 runs – leading the league. In 27 Big 12 games, he also ranked third in on-base percentage and tied for second in slugging percentage.
