HONOLULU, Hawaii- Surfers’ rightfielder Daniel Rockett
(University of Texas at San Antonio) has been named the 2010 HCBL MVP and
Batting Champion.
The sophomore played an integral role during the Surfers’ run through the postseason, hitting a critical two-run homerun in the first championship game in the bottom of the fifth inning yesterday morning at Hans L’Orange Park.
He finished the summer batting .345 in 116 AB with 2 homeruns and 22 RBI. He also had a .534 slugging percentage, .458 on-base percentage, .992 OPS and was 13-for-15 in stolen bases.
“I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family in giving me the opportunity to come out here this summer,” Rockett said. “I’m not sure if it was the environment or not but I just felt very relaxed out here. Winning the championship was everything, enjoying the win and dog-piling with my teammates was just great.”
