Worked hard to come back and pitch last season... Very coachable competitor... Has the ability to be a contributor out of the bullpen.

Wayne Graham said -- "Mark is a three-pitch pitcher whose playing time will be dependent on continuing to improve on his command."

At Rice -- 2008: Pitched a total of 13.0 innings in nine appearances, all out of the bullpen... Faced 50 opposing hitters and held the foes to a composite .220 batting average... Made his collegiate debut in the home-opener vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi after being sidelined the previous two seasons... Notched a dramatic save in his first Rice outing by getting the only batter he faced to ground out to end the game when the Islanders had the tying run on deck in the ninth... Had the second-highest ratio of groundball outs-to-fly outs of any pitcher on the staff (3-to-1)... Worked an eye-opening career-long 4.1 innings against NCAA Regional-bound Dallas Baptist, holding the Patriots to no runs on just two hits while striking out two... Pitched a total of 8.0 innings against teams that went on to play in the NCAA Tournament, including Dallas Baptist, Texas and Houston... Held those Regional-bound teams to a .167 batting average for a 1.12 ERA... 2007: Sat out the entire season for the second year in a row... 2006: Did not play his first year with the program while recovering from an injury... Made two starts in the Texas Collegiate League (Chapman) over the summer.

High School -- A 2005 graduate of Austin High School in Sugar Land... Three-year starter and baseball letterman under head coach Randy Ursery... Named sophomore of the year for the Bulldogs... Maintained a 3.2 grade point average.
