Junior Michael Murphy (Houston, TX/Austin HS) is on the team for the third consecutive year. In 2006, he was selected as a third baseman and the last two years have been at catcher. This season, Murphy tied for team lead with six home runs and batted .345. Murphy received his first nomination to First Team All-SCAC honors for his efforts on the diamond...Murphy started slow but finished the season strong to bat .322 for the year...he led the team in runs batted in with 37, home runs with six and slugging percentage with a .555 percentage...he also recorded a .997 fielding percentage with just one error in 291 total chances recording 269 putouts with 21 assists....he started 40-40 games and had 146 at bats with 47 hits and scoring 26 runs ranking third on the team...had one stolen base in one attempt...had a team high 5 RBIs and 2 home runs vs. Trinity on April 13. 2006 [First Year] (SCAC) Baseball Team 2006 Roster Murphy started 35-37 games in his rookie campaign for the Pirates...in 137 plate appearances he led the team with 51 hits and scored 28 runs...he batted .372 which led the team...had 12 doubles and 1 triple and hit 3 home runs ranking second on the squad...he led the team in slugging percentage at .540...walked 12 times and was second in hit by pitches with 5...had a .832 fielding percentage and in 107 chances had 19 putouts and 70 assists and registered 18 errors...had a team high 4 hits vs. Carleton College on March 23 and had team high 9 total bases vs. Hendrix (4/23).
