Corpus Christi Carroll pitcher Mark Blackmar was voted Player of the Year in Class 5A high school baseball by the Texas Sports Writers Association. Blackmar was 15-1 with an 0.80 earned run average for the state champs. He also batted .478 with seven home runs and 50 runs batted in.

Masek was 14-0 with an 0.78 earned run average and 143 strikeouts. He also batted .404 with 11 home runs and 44 runs batted in for the state runner-up. Gilley was 12-0 for the state champs with 105 strikeouts and an 0.52 ERA. He also batted .500.

Windthorst pitcher Travis Wolf was voted Class 1A Player of the Year on the Texas Sports Writers Association¹s All-State Baseball Team. Wolfe was 13-3 in leading Windthorst to the state championship. Wolf, who played catcher when not pitching, batted .420 with 42 runs batted in.
